Hello Techie,

>>Also if you have any thoughts on CIEN. I have a big
>>position in this one all the way from 80 something.

Ouch. I sympathize. I got stuck with this one at 58 while trying
to get TLAB at a discount. I don't think I have ever
seen a merge fall apart so effectively. If LU had anything
to do with the bad press, I have to give them a lot of
credit. They play hard ball and they have great timing.
Hopefully, you have some nice profits to write that loss
off against.

I am also surprised at how ferocious the competition is on DWDM is.
OC-48 has become a commodity in less than a year. simply amazing.
I guess it doesn't help that the RBOC's are in no hurry to
upgrade from OC-8/OC-16 because of the investment in fibre and
equipment. Most seem to be waiting for OC-192 which is supposed
to be available in 1999. I will believe when I see it though.

I can't imagine CIEN management taking less than 32 a share
after having turned down TLAB's last offer. It is going take time
for the stock price to repair itself and they need that before
they can even consider shopping themselved around.

On the demand side, any ideas on what the cash flows for the
CLEC's look like this quarter? I noticed CIEN mentioned last Q
that the DSO were on the high side due to their customer taking
longer than usual to pay.

Take care

Harry
