"Xenith to Close TV Plant in Illinois"

Zenith Electronics Corp., a U.S. subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc., plans to shut down its
color TV braun tube plant in Melrose Park, Ill., industry sources yesterday.

The plant, which produces 3.2 million color TV braun tubes per year, is slated to be shut
down in December with over 2,000 employees being laid off, the sources said.

LG said it had expected Zenith to close the plant after the U.S. firm filed for Chapter 11
bankruptcy in May this year.

LG, which has a 55 percent stake in Zenith, plans to take over the American TV
manufacturer to use it a bridgehead in the U.S. market.
