Stitch, Excellent article. Noticed this bit: By keeping open the contest to succeed him, Mahathir is signalling that he doesn't intend to step down any time soon. Says political economist Jomo: "The way he's going, he keeps everyone loyal. There's no possibility of a split." Seems to me that he's almost assuring the emergence of factions within UMNO. What do you think? The election should be very interesting. I imagine you'll be hearing all manner of rumour on the state of the Prime Minister's health. Steve
