The core communications and MIPs business has been solid - it's the wild plan to build the relatively huge Oregon fab and then become a much larger company without being able to follow through with high volume products that has gotten the company into so much red ink. They never should have built the Oregon fab in the first place - maybe never. First they should have tried to find foundry partners to run commodity products in and then they should have built their own fabs once they had high volume business built up. The planning showed a severe lack of judgement. The high-tech real-estate developer on the board probably doesn't help that judgement.
