NT is apparently less of a threat than earlier speculation justified.

From a recent ComputerWorld:

Nasdaq gets bullish on NT

"If there were any doubts that Windows NT-based servers can cut the mustard compared with Unix-based workstations, Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. may have provided the proof that they can. Since investing two years ago in two emerging technologies -- NT hardware instead of Unix, and the Internet -- Nasdaq has accommodated growing interest in its World Wide Web site to the tune of 13 million hits per day. And it has moved all of its corporate users to NT-based workstations."

Shane,
Yeah Ive changed my mind regarding Oracle lately for these reasons. First there is a kind of backlash against expensive integrated application packages (ala Sap) that started about 2-3 mos ago. The ERP market is slowing and customers dont want to pay as much as they used to. Also there is less of a desire to be on the "best" package, so Oracle will probably hold on to its current applications base. A general slowing in the apps mkt, which will benefit Oracle (and give them time to retool).

Also more unknowns regarding the DOJ/msft situation. Since msft is Oracles largest competitor in engine, any roadblock for msft is good for Oracle. A few months ago I thought msft was in a better position regarding the DOJ but Im not an expert on this. In any case dealing with this will be an impediment to msft in general.

Oracle stock holding up well against general mkt in the latest selloff.

8i looks like a good product.

Those are my reasons, again I dont like enterprise sw as an investment until post 2000 but Oracle is looking much better than most.....
