for people who need a sanity check.... was probably posted earlier this year...

talk.techstocks.com

reading this might make you question some of your investments which you have made like me... based on the seat of my pants" or something you read which is pretty strong recommendation about a particular stock....

Open an account in BC Canada! You can short any NYSE NADSAQ OTCBB IPO etc...any time at any price! Now on the other side of the coin, I had some cash in an account at Paine. I asked my broker to buy me some PNLK friday @ market. He called back and said the order was refused and that I could only sell from a long position all/any OTCBB stocks. Especially those heavily hyped on the internet!!!

Re: Short positions;

Agreed that these days PNLK is not going down because of shorters. There is no juice in shorting a stock at $1, but there is a short position in the stock of over 2 million shares minimum shorted between$8 and $4..
Agreed that individuals who have accounts in US firms CANNOT short, but Canadian firms CAN, and many MM's use Canadian firms to hold their shorts legally avoiding margin calls.
In the past days and weeks, I would estimate they covered 1 million shares so far.
That means they made on US arount $3 to $4million CASH.

Now I spoke to a very big attorney in NYC about Silicon and the Internet. He is not into internet, but he knew of SI as being the favorite vehicule for shorters. I asked him about enforcements against false rumors or hype. He told me, IHO they are very far from solving that issue. If providers or sites give out the identities of posters who hype or bash to the Justice Department or to enforcement officers, that's the end of them. They will lose tremendous revenues and subscribers will not post anymore knowing their identities can be reveiled.
Now this attorney is one that has done billions of $$$ IPO's on Wall Street with BIG firms. He knows the financial community, and knows what he is talking about.
He told me of the worries of those firms like Goldman Sachs, Salomon Brothers, Merryl Lynch, Pain Webber, Prudential etc... with the Internet community.
They are worried first because they are beginning to lose control of certain issues due to our growing audience on Internet, and because of the Lehman Brothers incident and rumor last week.
The power of our boards is such that we influence not only BB stocks, but NYSE and NASDAQ monsters.
They are also worried because tremendous sums of money are going to E-trade type of firms, and IPO time being over, they want revenues from people like us they despised not long ago.
(As you may notice I dont like the big firms.)

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we have become a growing player in the financial world, and its nice to know it.

Regards
Malko

Thanks for the clarifying of the "shorters".
I didn't want to get to know the process of a stock cause I have never intend
to short one. But the info you gave was very useful.
So, if I want to short Dell, when do I have to take cover???
About PNLK, I think this is a good time to load up some more, whether to average out your base or to get ready for the run up.
Four more trading days and we have our major advertising campaign. And then 11 more trading days after that, we are going to get news on sign up numbers. I think this is the last chance we see PNLK at a dollar.
