jach,

i do not have the name of the person i talked with however it was a lady in the ir department. i asked her a number of questions one of which was a confirmation of what the company indicated about this q's earnings in the con-call last month. On the con-call the company projected -.04 for the quarter.

After looking at zacks concensus and seeing that a dozen analysts wrote the estimates there down to +.05 seven days ago i did not understand the difference. Therefore the basis of my question to cienna ir.

Does the company expect earnings for q to be within the -.04 guidance previously given on the con-call? her answer was yes that they were optimistic that earnings would meet prior guidance.

i basically commented to her that it was confusing trying to understand the earnings expectation for this company when the 12 analysts that are currently projecting earnigs were so much higher than that of the company. she responded that she could see my concern.

with that said, i believe that cienna has lowered expectations substantially to the -.04 level. perhaps their strategy is to undercommit and over perform and the analysts are going to be somewhat close to the mark. i don't know. and, if that is the case, with the company guidance of -.04, then maybe we have a December surprise to look forward to with cienna.
