The hint of collusion isn't substantiated, but it is very odd that there was no concern expressed about falling dollar on the US side. Th e BOJ announcement was the only thing the G7 could come up with regarding Japan - they are sacrificing business activity for bankers' bailout. Treasury selling in the 10s of billions at a shot by the Japanese, bond market is closed on Monday, stock market is open. Reportedly the US stock traders are demanding a 1/2% cut in discount, fed rate over the weekend. So on monday I expect a possible run by the Japanese on the blue chip stocks, in the absence of the bond market money. Also the 1/2 rate cut should be ruled out for now, which will serve up a disappointment.
Any Greenspan speeches this weekend?
Besides hedge funds, corporations are also heavily involved in currency trades. Also the Yen loans to US internationals could be another source of problems.
