Brian,

A major issue in the QCOM versus VLSI issue is pricing. VLSI has apparently priced their CDMA ASICs very aggressively with the intention of building market share more quickly. This is a new product for VLSI and they may have felt as if they had to price them low to take business away from competitors. I have even heard that QCOM is buying from VLSI in cases where VLSI sells them cheaper than QCOM can make them. I'm not sure how true any of this is. I'm simply sharing what I have heard. VLSI is trading at almost 50% of it's book value and right at it's cash value. Clearly it is a bargain if even one of the alleged rumors turns into reality.
