Frank, I believe you are correct on that score, unless the specialist is crazy enough to trade on his own behalf. Same type of deal on CBOE. They are order fillers (not meant disparagingly) and make their money by having good clients that feed them lots of order flow.

I am not sure if specialists keep the spreads. Specialists make $2 per trade and that's why
they are also referred to as $2 trader.
