Forrest Research...

Glenn et al, check out this week's Barrons in The Trader column, Recent research by Forrest is cited. Unit sales for PCs in 1999 is estiamted to go up 14%, most of that in the first half of 1999, and due exclusively to business buying for y2k purposes. Dollar volume however is supposed to go up only 3%.

Implications? IMHO, there are two: (1)) Big deflation in PC maker profit margins (unit sales up and revenues practically flat can mean only that). (2) The market for new PC buyers will be at best flat. Outside of AMZN maniacs whose life centers on chatting with other book buyers in AMZN chat rooms (how the hell do they find time to read anyway??), there won't be any growth coming from new users. Natuarlly, this is also mroe bad news for GTW, that does not have as much of a presence in the business market anyway.

Glenn, about writing Amzn Oct puts;

I have 400 short shares with $120 average, following your strategy, I plan to cover them finally at around $30.(Ok, maybe $10! <g>) Will continue box-trading carefully, write calls and puts accordingly.

In addition to the above 400, I do still have the very first 100 short at $50. The Oct 70 and 80 put contracts are specifically targeting at that 100 shares. The $1,600 premium is nice, and it's OK if both are assigned.

I feel that if I am able to "retire" the $50; then I may be able to replace it with a "higher" short base if oppt. present itself again.

Thanks much for all your articles during the weekend, I am still reading them. :))
