>>I am not a techie but...can this Flash Reader be carried around in someones shirt pocket say and then be used back at the desktop or laptop to transfer images onto an eventual "internal clik!" drive?<<

The Vapor! drive's flash card reader attaches to one end of the drive. You then insert the Flash Card into the Reader, push some buttons on the Drive, and the data supposedly is transferred to disc.

At your desktop, you insert the drive into its Base unit. The base unit is connected to your computer by a tangly serial cable. The data is then transferred from the Vapor! disc, through the Base unit, through the serial cable, and into your computer. It is a very efficient data transfer system. Not. This also ignores the fact that your data is at risk from the moment you try and transfer it from the Flash Card into a flimsy, power hungry device that uses an unsealed mechanical disc prone to dust, dirt, smoke, sand, and any number of particulates that can contaminate the disc virtually at will.

The Base unit is also the only way to charge the Vapor! drive's battery. The Vapor! drive needs a rather large and clunky external battery to run, so it uses a typical older-style Cell-Phone battery that clips onto the underside of the drive. The power drain must be a lot more than Iomega wants to admit, because they still don't publish any Power Usage Specs on their web page.

Frank -

The entire purpose of the flash reader is to transfer the files to the clik drive. The flash reader would not have any type of storage of its own separate from the clik drive.

Therefore, you would carry the clik drive and reader together.

Since no one who posts on this thread has seen the final shipping version of the clik drive/flash reader combo, any statements they might make about the size the devices, batteries, power supplies or cables are pure conjecture. Or, to put it another way, made up in that person's own head.

Conjecture and Truth should not be confused.

Prototypes shown at trade shows are not finished products. Once the product ships, then it will be possible to make judgements concerning device sizes, transfer processes, power consumption, durability, and convenience. Until then, I suppose people can spout off all they want to.
