Excerpt from SME Mining Engineeering handbook Vol 2 1973 Section 17-6 Placer Mining - Author: Arthur A. Daily
Pages 17-157
"Elusive Gold- Gold in the form of clean free particles of micron size is present in certain rocks, from which it is being extracted commercially by simple cyanidation. The method is successful because :
1) the Rock is practically free of Cyanocides.
2)- The Gold becomes exposed at relatively coarce grind due to porosity of the Rock, and,
3) The Particles are so clean that, in combination with minute size , dissolution ocurs rapidly- indeed, up to 85% in 15 MINUTES ( Chuca say sound familar??? ?).
Reliable determination of atr least the recoverable gold content of the rock can be made by conventional fire assay, by atomic absorption, and perhaps by OTHER methods.
Gold in similar free, or in organic or inorganic compounds Down to molecular size particles, undoubtely occurs in alluvium. ( That is Paleo Channels folks) In none of these forms would gold be susceptible to cyanidation, because free particles in alluvare coated with mineral salt and thus insulated from solution, and compounds would not react. NO RELIABLE method of ASSay for gold in these forms is known at present. The Presence of significant amounts of such gold in certain unconsolidated sediments has been very strongly indicated from recent research. It is expected that a method of extraction will be developed which may also be the first method of ASSAY. After determination of the parameters , the scientific knowledge acquired undoubtely will lead to other applications of more importance than extraction of gold." Chuca posted about my Sedimentology Textbook this week and I give credir herein to what I wil scan later on maybe this next week is now the framework, so; if you want to read on more go to the Library and get this standard Geology College Text by M.R. Leeder - Dept of earth science- Leeds," Sedimentology Processes and Product" ISBN 0-04-551053-9 and 1054-7 Pbk - TWO PARTS ssigned: Bedforms and Sedimentary Structures Pages 83-84 and 8- Bedforms in Granular Sediments Pages 85-102, And 9 Bedforms caused by Erosion of Cohesive Sediment. 103-106.
