Hillary long ago agreed to turn a blind eye to Bill Clinton's many affairs -- from the Arkansas governor's mansion to the White House -- in return for the political power she has enjoyed as his wife. But that agreement has also left Hillary free to pursue her own affairs -- including a long-rumored romance with White House counsel Vince Foster, say insiders. And Bill and Hillary's enemies are now viciously spreading the story that she's also had intimate relationships with women! "Theirs has long been a marriage of convenience," Ivan Duda, a former FBI agent and private investigator Hillary once hired to keep tabs on Bill, told The ENQUIRER. "She lets Bill get the sex he wants, and in exchange she gets the power she craves." An insider disclosed: "Hillary wonders when she passes a pretty face in the halls of the White House whether Bill flirted or did something more with the woman. But Hillary can handle it -- she came to terms with Bill's womanizing years ago." And a source who has been close to her for years declared: "Hillary is a very smart woman and she knows exactly what she wants -- political power. That's why she has stayed married to Bill through his constant affairs. That's why she's stood by him publicly even after the humiliating details of his behavior with White House women emerged. "But Hillary has her own secrets. The bottom line about their marriage is that both know that the other has fooled around. At one point in their lives they were deeply in love and committed to each other only. But years of Bill's cheating turned their marriage into what it is today -- a pact built around political power. "Bill and Hillary really like each other -- they're still best friends even after everything that has happened. "Bill has had hundreds of affairs over the years. At first, Hillary was devastated. But she realized that together they had a chance to be the most powerful couple in the world. "And when she came to understand years ago that he would not remain faithful to her, she decided to stay with him, tolerate his affairs and not shut herself off from finding love and affection outside the marriage either." The insider revealed: "It has long been known to friends of the President and the First Lady that the only reason the Clintons have held their marriage together through all his alleged affairs is because Hillary has had a private life of her own. "She has her own secrets and has fought very hard to keep them hidden." Sources say those secrets include her close relationship with longtime colleague Vince Foster, whose shooting death five years ago was ruled a suicide. "Hillary was having a romance with Foster -- it was an open secret in the White House and among her friends," the close source disclosed. "And what could Bill say? Her behavior was nothing compared to his. So he tolerated it, just as she tolerated him." Said the insider: "Hillary turned to Foster, her legal partner at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, when her marriage encountered problems. Rumors of an affair started circulating back in the early 1980s. "There were even reports of secret weekends spent together at a mountain cabin. When he was found shot to death in Ft. Marcy Park in Washington in 1993, no one was sadder than Hillary." More recently, the First Lady has been upset by even more shocking whispers about her private life. "Hillary and Bill's enemies have been spreading stories that she has had intimate relationships with women," said an inside source. "This gay shocker has Hillary fuming." Clinton's former aide Dick Morris threw gasoline on the fire when he hinted in an interview that a straying husband like Bill might cheat because he has a lesbian wife, although he later said he didn't think Hillary was a lesbian. But Hillary has had a mystery relationship with a close female friend, according to the close source. "Several years ago, Hillary and her friend wanted to get together alone for a few hours in a California hotel. A plan was set in motion to free the First Lady so she could be whisked to the hotel without much commotion. "She went to the hotel, met her friend who was waiting for her, and spent the afternoon behind closed doors with her." Hillary has also spent time with the woman in a private house in Washington, another insider disclosed. "The house is close to the White House and Hillary would go over and meet with her when she came to town. "There were no witnesses to their meetings." Former private investigator Duda told The ENQUIRER: "Hillary's main job as a wife is to protect Bill from himself -- to pretend, play-act, deny, lie and cover his rear end." Duda said Hillary hired him in the early 1980s, while Bill was between terms as Arkansas governor. "She wanted me to get the dirt on Bill, to find out who he was fooling around with. "But her purpose in having me find out about those women was not so she could confront Bill with the hurt attitude of 'How could you do this to me.' "Instead it was damage control, pure and simple. My report enabled Hillary to go to Bill and work out arrangements for keeping those women quiet -- by offering them jobs, promotions, contacts to better positions or whatever it took to keep everything hush-hush." The close source added: "Bill's embarrassing affair with Monica Lewinsky has humiliated Hillary -- but it didn't shock her.
