jbe, did you know that the State of Oregon, for one, exempts lawmakers from being fined or otherwise charged with non-criminal illegal acts while the legislature is in session? I remember a news item a few years ago where a State House Representative asked a judge to drop a speeding citation he received by the State Police on an interstate freeway. He cited the State law which exempts lawmakers from these sort of infractions. As I recall, he wasn't driving to the capitol building, but the legislature was "in session" meaning that the part of the year in which the legislature is active, was when he got the speeding ticket. The judge had no choice but to have the citation dropped.
