Captn, re system specs FWIW (I'm no expert).

I know Steve was kind enough to offer a number of good SI threads, that I already visit, for your review but let me add my $.02, if I may. I am thisclose to signing up w/MB and here is where I'm at.

I have an IBM Aptiva 486, currently configged (upgrade 18 mos ago) with an Evergreen 586 Pentium 133 processor, 16 meg memory, 2 gig HD and a Hayes Accura 56k (flex tech) modem. I've decided this cannot be my primary system to daytrade with. It _may_ be fine as a back-up (I'll explain below).

I'm evaluating systems from Dell, Gateway and CompUSA currently and will purchase a system this week. I've reached my comfort level with both my proposed system cfg and my DT firm (MB) by spending the past several mos reseaching my options (hey I trust myself, you don't have too :-) ).

2 terrific sites for you to review are mbtrading.com and phactor.com. I've done an exhaustive review of both sites; and extremely well worth it. Spend some time there Sunday.

Another SI thread to consider is the Dream Machine thread: exchange2000.com. ZeusPaul is another individual who has provided a phenomenal amt of time and energy assisting many. Several other key posters also post invaluable info.

From the MB Trading website (http://www.mbtrading.com), check the "Account/Admin" section, #4 - "Contributions from MB Traders".
Gravitar and Phactor (you can actually get to Phactor's site from here - phactor.com). There's great info here. You'll get a better idea of what a good cfg would be for your system.

Going on memory here I read at one of these sites we need at least a Pentium 233 PC (yes P I, not even a P II) with 64 MB memory, 20MB of available HD, a 2MB video card and a 56k flex modem. The MB site also says you can use a Mac, but they seem better geared for PCs.

Personally, I am going to go with at least a new Pentium II 350mhz system, 64 meg memory, 3+ GB HD, 20+ speed CD, 56k flex modem, 2MB+ video card, an undetermined system back-up system (want a quick one; not a zip drive though) and running Windows 98. For under $2,000 I expect to have a system that I can upgrade to a faster processor with add'l memory that will last me at least a few yrs. I'll retain my existing PC for back-up (which I'll test with once I'm up and running w/MB. I _believe_ I read Phactor (from his website) denoted he has a 486 he has used as back-up - I know I read it somewhere.

Windows 98 will allow me to add up to 9 monitors (right now I'll try handling 2). I've got a 15" and 17" monitor which I'll use to start off with. I'll add a card (I'm no techno geek, just a damn good driver) which will allow me to utilize multi monitors. Either the Gravitar or Phactor sites - or maybe it was the Dream Machine site (look for video cards) provides info (sorry can't remember precisely). I actually saw a good demo from wherever this was (may have been at the Appien website - a firm that reportedly makes a pretty good board), if I come across it again soon, I'll let you know.

There are cards that will allow you to add 1 add'l monitor per card and others where you can add more than 1 add'l monitor with one card. I'm not up to speed on these yet though.

I wanted to get this out to you this wkend. I know the best time for me to evaluate/research things is on the weekends since I trade FT. Best of luck to you. I'll try to update you when I'm up and running.

Hope this helps.

Jack
