Joseph,

Mindmeld's numbers aren't that far off. Up to now what we've seen is a re-hashing and upgrading of old infrastructure. Now the carriers (all over the world) are being pushed into a new world. The carriers include not only the traditional AT&T's, MCI's, etc.. but also the ILECs, the ISPs, and the Cable Cos. The playing field is not just internet traffic - it's voice, video, and data together. It's a new era of communicaitons. You don't have to believe it, but it is this change that will stimulate demand for new infrastructure the likes of which we've never seen in the past.

As for your $100B revenue numbers..

LU - $29B annual
ALA - $34B annual
NT - $16B annual
CSCO - $8B annual
ERICY - $23B annual
NOKa - $11B annual
TLAB - $1.3B annual
NEC - $42B annual
HWP - $47B annual

And there's more Siemens, Fujitsu, DSC, Samsung, ASND, all the bit players...which probably add up to some serious change..and low and behold you're pretty close to $300B. Oh, let's not forget the software and database crap too. You'd have to include ORCL, MSFT, BELLCORE, etc. etc.. Joseph perhaps we all need to review this a bit better. The market for communications equipment is broader than any of us can imagine. Now, granted that Cisco only serves a portion of this market, but imagine this...imagine if PBX's become IP based. Hmmmm will then cisco would have a huge chunk of avaiable market to go after.

Now, back to your argument. PE 22.... Hey, if you believe that then you should wait. Hey, given these market conditions you might just get lucky - who knows! But, I truely believe that long term (next 5 years) cisco will command a higher PE than this. Simply due to three main attributes. Their the gorilla in their market. Their market is growing in excess of 30% annually, and this market is moving into a dynamic never seen before. Cisco is all over it - ISPs, CLEC's, ILEC's, IXC's, Cable, Voice,...they're all over this like stink on you know what.

OG

>>Do you think AT&T and Bell Atlantic will raise their rates seven times in three years...<<

No, but their internet divisions have profits that are easily
growing by 7 times per 3 years. AT&T, RBOCs, Sprint, etc.
all know that internet capabilities are in big demand my
businesses and they see it easily in the profits associated
with internet services.

Regular telephone service for AT&T is a thing of the past...
not that much $$ growth for them in it. Plus, eventually,
voice will be part of data making is insignificant.
