Qwest Announces $65 Million Contract With Big Planet For Communications Services; Qwest Services Sold Through Big Planet's InterNetworking Distribution Channel
Business Wire - October 12, 1998 07:16
Business Editors

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1998--Qwest (NASDAQ:QWST) today announced it has signed a four-year, $65 million contract with Big Planet to provide both commercial and consumer communications services including high-speed connectivity to the Qwest network and long distance service.

Qwest's commercial and consumer services will be offered via Big Planet's InterNetworking distribution channel -- an internet centric and person-to-person marketing force. Big Planet's 40,000 independent agent network will now be selling services throughout the US and in 1999, Qwest will also enable Big Planet to offer customers IP-based telephony services.

"The internet is rapidly becoming an effective and integral means to sell high end telecommunications services. Along with their web based approach, Big Planet's person-to-person marketing force clearly positions them to take advantage of this growing opportunity," said Lew Wilks, president of business markets for Qwest. "Big Planet represents another example of Qwest's innovation in building creative distribution channels in the communications marketplace."

Big Planet is a nationwide internet and communications service provider offering a host of multimedia applications. Through the agreement, Qwest will be providing Big Planet with products and services, which round out their offerings and improve their network performance. This contract is just one of the many examples of how Qwest continues to gain a competitive advantage with its state-of-the-art back office systems and distributor support mechanisms, all of which enable relationships with key organizations like Big Planet.
