Hi,

I don't know if this article has already been posted.
It has some very interesting numbers, from which one could do a lot of really extensive analysis.

There is a difference between microprocessors and communication
chip sets. I don't mean to insult anyone on this thread but
it takes more brain to design communication chip sets than
microprocessors, because there is alot of analog aspects in
communication. In digital systems, a good portion of development
is devoted to low-level stuffs. Conceptually, it's not complicated.
But in communication, it's either you have it or you don't.
The analog aspect of communication makes it things really complicated
to design and analyze.

Also, look at the trouble Lucent's got into in their handset
division. They may close the development in a matter of time.

Jon:

I assume INTC gets nothing from AMD.

AMD did license out MMx and AMD acknowledged Intel's Trademark. Though, I am unsure of the terms of the contract.
