RE: AMD and lawsuits.

There have been several lawsuits involving Intel Vs. AMD et al. The last one resulted in a settlement between AMD and Intel. To summarize, AMD had to use their own design for 5th generation on up uP (Pentium clone on up). That is why AMD was so late with the K5 and had to purchase Nexgen for their K6 chip.

Intel also, unsuccessfully, sued Cyrix (now part of NSM) on patent infringement and lost since Cyrix used IBM as their foundary.

Remember, DEC sued Intel and then settled? Cyrix has also sued Intel for patent infringement.

I think we all can agree that IP is extremely important and needs to be protected.
