10 GB removable media on the short term horizon...

TeraStor claims its 10 GB removable media drives will be available fourth quarter 98.

terastor.com
>>>Pricing and Availability
The 10GB drive, with first shipment scheduled in the fourth
quarter of 1998, is expected to have a manufacturers suggested
retail price (MSRP) of between $699 and $799. The 20GB
drive, with targeted availability in the second quarter of 1999, is
expected to have an MSRP of between $999 and $1,199. Media
cartridge availability for the 10GB and 20GB drives will
coincide with the shipment dates of each drive. Exact pricing for
all products will depend on volume, product configuration, sales
channel and the competitive environment at the time of product
shipment. Products will be distributed through direct OEM
channels, computer product distributors and ultimately through
computer reseller channels.<<<

OK, you have my interest. I was checking on the speed and the JAZ2 2GB drive has a minimum sustained transfer rate of 4.9 MB sec and an average sustained rate of 7.4 MB sec!! iomega.com The HP MO drives read at 2.7 MB and write at 1.4 MB sec. www8.zdnet.com . In short I am impressed. I missed the jump to 2 GB, I must have been sleeping... All for less than $400 if one has a SCSI card.

Don't beleive everything you read. Syquest Spar-Q is a much better deal and faster too. The syqyest syjet is even faster. The jaz has good throughput but 17ns access time. MO is really really slow access time desptite the decent throughput #'s. I bought a jaz years ago when they first came out, so I have a large investment there. If I were buying new I would be a Parallel Port Sparq.

Sean, I am a little confused. Would it be possible to mirror a harddrive using Power Quest Drive Copy if the harddrive partition were less than 2GB? or would one copy all of the files from the primary boot drive to the JAZ2 boot configured drive?..and then use it as a KOT drive?

Absolutely can. Its just like 1/2 G HD except its removable. BTW: On your previous question drive image could restore that image to anything with at least 400M of free space. It includes partition magic technology and can re-size the target partition during restore.I use this mainly when cloning machines with indentical hardware but different size disk drives.
