Chris, Yes, you can buy puts and calls up to 25% of the account's value in the Brown account, whether you own the stock or not.

There are a few candidates for next group to implode: Internet scams, Big bad dopers, and, as always, the Nifty Techies (MSFT, Dell, Lucent). I have puts on the first two and plan to screw up my courage and buy puts on the last group after the first of the year. I already own a small amount of puts on MSFT in my pizzazz portfolio.
