BEFORE THE BELL - Chrysler heads higher

NEW YORK, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Shares of Chrysler Corp. strengthened in pre-open trade Monday after the automaker reported third-quarter earnings that surpassed forecasts.

Chrysler rose to 43-5/8 on the Instinet electronic trading system from a Friday closing price of 41-10/16.

The American Depositary Receipts for German automaker Daimler-Benz (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: DAIG.F) (NYSE:DAI - news) rose to 75-1/4 from a Friday close at 71-1/16. Daimler and Chrysler have agreed to merge.

At the start it was Amazon breaking in front to take a two length lead, followed by yahoo, renwick and inktomi. At the 1/4 its
inktomi and renwick fighting for the lead as a tiring amazon drops back to 5 th. At the half yahoo moves back up to challenge the front running renwick while the mighty Dell still needs 1 length to finish in the top ten. Now there are three across the track, inkt,yhoo,and rnwk(g)Its still anybodys race
