Nice observations. A scholar and a gentleman, no doubt!

I agree 100% with your observations of e-mail being the number one interest and use on the Internet. A couple of months ago, the number of pieces of e-mail surpassed the number of letters delivered by the US postal service. That's remarkable because not that large of a percentage of people are on the net at this point. If you take out the spam the number is much lower but still remarkable.

This brings up one of the most important differences between the "dynamic" of the internet v. broadcast and static publishing media: the internet is inherently interactive and self enabled. So why is the speculation so fixated on those companies that are trying to turn it into a new way to "channel" advertising, information and sales? Could it be that the American mind-set is so grounded in broadcast type media that we largely fail to see the obvious? I think that a "boob tube generation" prejudice is inevitable and will only be overcome through a new set of acquired experiences. The internet is very exciting but speculators in these new tulip bulb companies will be met with the realization that the growth of competition is THE defining factor in valuation.
