I think that gaps exhaust a lot of buyers. When that buying pressure is off there's nobody left to buy for awhile and you see prices drift back down. Value buyers will step back up to the plate at the next support level--where the gap is closed.

Joe: The real gaps that are significant are those having no historical prices of that range. The gap we had today has been covered by the prices of the past week and therefore shouldn't be as significant as those just mentioned. Of course, in most recent movements, coms has not been very bullish, reflected in the fact that even those supposedly insignificant gaps became a hang-up. They were, however, not necessary from the same origin as those from a gap with prices of no precedent. We are still in a basing period, it appears. Buy at 24-25 and sell at 30-35 still seems to be a good practice before a breakout really happens.
