I think he just has to keep quitting! (BTW, I don't care who does or doesn't smoke, drink, or whatever. None of my business). I think the Government (read the public) is stealing a lot of money off these people, and its a funny damn world.

FWIW, though...let me tell you how I ended up quit: I guess in some sense, I simply wore out--and ran out of places to hide. I tried every gimmick; even used to pay $1.00 per cigarette to cut down and still enjoy the habit. It didn't get me quit but I ate out in restaurants a lot less!

I always thought I was giving something (good) up in giving up cigarettes. So long as I believed that I was sacrificing (whether relaxation, or whatever...), I always went back. Of course, when you can't swallow or eat, but you can still smoke one after another...you gotta wonder what you're sacrificing. To shorten a long story of 25 years of misery...I finally accepted that it was nicotene that started and fed the vicious circle and that it was only curing what it was always causing. All I was giving up was a miserable habit, and there was no sacrifice involved. If I ever need to remind myself what I'm missing, I only need to pick up a cigarette. I'll remember within about 2.5 seconds!

People smoke around me all the time. I no longer like the smell of smoke...but its no big deal. Hope your spouse can cut down on the taxes!
