CIEN may or may not be 2 yrs ahead of competition. But to assume that LU had better technology is a big lead. I would think the ATT decision is more based on: startup vs proven vendor; and new entrant willing to negot. a good price & supplier relationship vs. smarmy young "only game-in-town" DWDM supplier that needed a good smacking. I do not know what to infer re future prospects for CIEN from this, since ATT could well have done CIEN a favor by wakingthem up to the fact they need to become very aggressive in building defensible market share in the face of strong competition.
