Jacob,If you want to buy on despair, enter a limit buy order for 22. It will fill, sooner than you think.

Did you buy $22 puts? Using DW TA data the bull support line appears to be at $23. If it breaks through to your projection to $22 then it probably will fall further. But, if it bounces off the support line then we will probably see $28 again in the near future. We must remember that this is option week and anything can happen with increase volatility. Additionally, Intc earnings are out tomorrow. A pop with intc. will probably be good news for the semi's and AMAT going into November.

Hope, you are right in your calculation of your puts.

Just my $.02.

Paul V.

NVLS's earnings are meaningless. It's the bookings that matter

During the ConfCall, Rick Hill admitted that he has some orders in the bag that won't be reported until the 4Q results. In the response to another question, he admitted that he was lowballing the estimates "...because I don't want to come back to you guys with my tail between my legs."

He will Manage the estimates for the next quarter just like he managed them for this quarter.

Jake,
Re:NVLS's earnings are meaningless. It's the bookings that matter. As I said a while ago, until bookings turn up, all rallies will be false rallies. And, just as we had about 7 false rallies up to 40 in AMAT (in the 9 months up to August), we'll now have many more opportunities to lose money, while we gyrate in a lower trading range.

Very astute assessment. Come mid/late Oct, reality will settle into
the markets about prospects going forward into Q4 and Q1-'99.
As you said previously, "Cash is King in '99".

<<NVLS's earnings are meaningless. It's the bookings that matter.>>

You are correct, with one proviso: it is true for semiconductor bookings, not equipment bookings. This holds true for the last six cycles, going back to 1987.
