At this point of time I would not be a buyer of Ciena for the following reasons
1. To have a quarter where they are looking for -.04/share is not too impressive.
2. The statement has been made that their products are like a commodity, lacking a great deal of technological leadership. This has to be proven one way or another.
3. To go from $92 to $8 is a heck of a ride, and they have lost a lot of face and confidence with investors.
4. Now Tellab's was impressed, but perception becomes fact and it weighs heavily on the downside.
5. In order for me to be a buyer of Ciena at these levels, I would have to do intensive research on their mgt. team and their products.
Having said that if they got 3 good solid long-term contracts or were the candidate of another serious buyout, one could easily see them becoming a triple.
