OT RE: A joke

When I was briefly assigned as protocol officer at NASA back in the 60's, an alien space shuttle landed at a seaplane base in the Chesapeake Bay, and I was assigned to escort one of the aliens and show him whatever he wished to see. We went through the Smithsonian, the Mellon, the National Portrait Gallery, and he learned very rapidly, but toward the end of the day, he wanted to know where all the people came from. I explained the process of courtship, marriage, sexual reproduction, child rearing, etc., but he couldn't grasp the concept of sexual reproduction. At length, I agreed to take an interne and demonstrate the process after secreting him behind the drapes of a room in the Lexington Hotel (no longer there, I fear) but it was only $7 and fit into the government per diem. After we had done our duty, and I had sent the girl back to the office, the alien came out from behind the arras and said: "Well, where iz ze babee?" (he spoke a heavy, fake French accent.) I replied that it would not be along for 9 months.
He responded "Zen, what was ze rush at the end?"
