Hi Larry,

Well it looks like we're in for another round of "look what I can find on the internet that has to do with smart window technology."

To all newcomers who would like to save time and eyestrain, there have been other technologies that compete in some of the areas in which SPD products will be competing. Several of us have had the pleasure of contacting one of the foremost experts in electrochromic technology, Dr. Carl Lampert who headed a research team in this area for the Lawrence National Laboratory at Berkeley. Dr. Lampert has since gone into the consulting business and works with glass manufacturers around the world. He is recognized as an expert and has published several articles on "smart window technology. Now Dr. Lampert was quoted in April 1997 as saying that SPD was the biggest breakthrough in smart window technology in 2 decades. He continues to believe this and was recently on the REFR conference call letting us know how diligently Hankuk was working to get out product and how committed they were to SPD.

SPD products will compete openly with other technologies. We need only 1% of the business to bring 100MILLION dollars to the bottom line. As someone else said, we are not concerned about some "SPD-killing" technology that will come along. This is a BILLION dollar industry and we have plenty of room for competition.

There will be many applications of SPD, not just glass but FPD's and things that aren't even in the vernacular yet. Dr. Lampert brought up something he called "electronic paper" as an area which might be a fit for SPD.

So enjoy the posts on all the technologies that are out there and you can take great pleasure in knowing that SPD will give them all a run for their money.
