U.S.adj chain store sales off 0.3
pct-BTM/Schroder

NEW YORK, Oct 13 (Reuters) - U.S. chain store sales fell 0.3
percent in the week ended October 10 versus the prior week,
according to the seasonally adjusted BTM/Schroder weekly chain
store sales index.

Below-plan performance for one retailer shaved 0.3 percentag points off the week-over-week
index, accounting for its drop, BTM/Schroder said.

Despite the decline, however, retailers' comments were generally upbeat and sales were above plan
for most of them, the BTM/Schroder report said.

Cold weather helped spur apparel sales, and inventories and overall promotional activity appeared
to be largely on plan for the industry, it said.

On a year-over-year basis, sales rose an adjusted 7.0 percent for the week, BTM/Schroder said.http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/981013/l7.html
