Chuzz - I think you're right on on the assessment of stock buy-backs, with two variations on the theme: One, given that the price of any stock is basically what someone is willing to pay for it, there can be some effect on the price in that fewer shares are in play (available for trades). Two, there is a psychological "bump" for some investors who view stock buy-backs as indicators of a company's self-confidence and a validation of their view that the shares are a bargain.

I see those as temporary influences, but I have taken advantage of them in the past.
