Steve, (edited) I really have no idea. But how about the following WAG as the answer to each of your questions... The book value and the market value diverged to the point that the accountants wouldn't sign off unless book value was brought a little closer to reality. e.g. - Perhaps ESST has an inventory of chips that won't sell because its competitors have more advanced chips at a lower price. Not only do the chips get written down but also its mask sets needed to produce those chips. Ian.
