The only exception would be teleco SANs. I did some research on this a while ago and at that time, some of them had large customer data warehouses that were FDDI based. I think this will actually be the model for the future. Just like you can rent disk space from your ISP for web page related activities, I expect telephone and network companies to offer the same services - using large SAN based data warehouses. The right routers will be a large plus. Specialty groups and groups where high security is necessary (e.g. research labs, medical facilities, law enforcement, financial services) will probably opt for local SANs.
