Well I hope you understand - but I had to delete it. No real choice in the matter. Two reasons. The first is that in my headlong rush toward concise and perfectly self-consistent Truth I forgot the name of the thread! I realized that my complete abandonment of all ambiguity might trample on some of the more sensitive temperaments resident there. The folks whose very ethos relies on the shadowy, pliant nature of things said and felt. It is not my place to touch a match to the guncotton of their souls. So - simple decency (of which I seem to have a double portion) demanded that I do the right thing. And I am nothing if not polite (and maybe even then).

Then of course there is a more selfish motivation. Such a bold delineation of opinion - and worse, its patent unassailability - would bring out those who bring argument for the sheer pleasure of picking a fight. I would be dogged by a shoal of ad hominem posts seeking strenuously to argue the unarguable at my expense. I could ignore these base attacks, of course - or, once again driven by my ever so highly refined sense of decency, I could dip those posts one by one into a vat of logic-acid, and then scoop out the resultant flotsam and sundry thought-scum (to keep the thread halfway clean). But oy, the effort. The thankless, backbreaking effort. I confess, I just wasn't in the mood.

Maybe I'll try it again another day. I am and remain - Alex
