Tony & Intel Investors - New StrongARM Embedded products from Intel, along with Very Low Power Pentium MMX devices and a new i960 embedded processor. Intel's Design Machine keeps churning out the new products ! This point should not be overlooked - while Cyrix and AMD are delivering PAPERS today about FUTURE PRODUCTS, Intel is DELIVERING NEW PRODUCTS TODAY! Paul {======================================}biz.yahoo.com Tuesday October 13, 3:00 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release Intel Announces New Embedded Processor Products SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1998--Intel Corporation [Nasdaq:INTC - news] today announced products that enable new types of computing devices that connect to, or interact with, personal computers. These devices include handheld consumer appliances, communications equipment, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, PC-like industrial automation systems and data/storage management systems. These kinds of devices allow users to interface with data and to communicate with other users or systems. To power these devices, Intel has added three new, high-performance, 32-bit solutions to its embedded product line. These solutions are based on the embedded Pentium(R) and i960(R) processor families and StrongARM(1) processors. The embedded Pentium processors and StrongARM SA-1100 and SA-1101 companion chip support the Windows(1) NT(1) or Windows CE(1) operating systems in use by many embedded applications. ''The real growth and value in the embedded market segment is in handhelds, POS terminals, networking devices and others that connect, communicate, and control information in and around the information services environment,'' said Ron Smith, corporate vice president and general manager, Intel's Computing Enhancement Group. ''Intel is providing the high-performance, 32-bit embedded platform solutions that complement PC-based computing in retail, home, office or factory environments.'' Joining the embedded product line-up for point-of-sale, industrial automation and networking equipment is Intel's 166- and 266-MHz low-power Pentium(R) processors with MMX(tm) technology. The processor will be available in a new, high-thermal, low-profile, plastic ball grid array (HL-PBGA) package for space-constrained embedded applications, like networking, that require lower power consumption than previous embedded Pentium processors. The new, 100-MHz i960 VH Embedded-PCI processor builds on the popular i960 processor family, adding a single PCI interface. This integration simplifies design by reducing the number of components typically required. Applications include switches, hubs, routers and remote access equipment and storage/data management adapter cards used in PCs and servers. The StrongARM solution, which will be used by Hewlett-Packard in its next generation of handheld computing products, includes the SA-1100 and the new SA-1101 companion chip. Providing up to 10 hours of battery life, the StrongARM solution will help enable e-mail, fax and internet access for users of the device.
