Looking a little weaker now.

Could be CPQ's version of the old adage...

"Sell on rumor, sell on news!"

Quiet, yes. This is reminiscent of last quarter's downturn in price action prior to the channel stuffing debacle. Although its much harder to tell if people are dumping shares based on 'in the know' information or because of the general market decline. I think we need to see good numbers from both Cpq and Intc in order for us to move higher. Still, I dont expect much considering most people are selling into strength irregardless of earnings.

Well see tomorrow. Picked up another 1000 @ 25 1/4 today..

Good Luck to all..

PCSS..Pissani sure did Apple a favor. He spent the whole spot embellishing Apple at for the most part CPQ's expense.

Twice on CNBS there was lukewarm to negative comment on CPQ. In answer to a caller this morning, a stock-picker thought that Compaq was a good company, BUT.....

Then again, this afternoon a guest JPM investment manager said the same thing. good company in a tough market not much downside at these prices but not a good long term play.

"Refreshing" to hear a contrary view.

My read is that 70% of today's drop was market related, the rest is Compaq-specific apprehension. Is the story going to be mixed, hiding behind the "transitory quarter" catch-all? Even if it is, and even if this is acceptable, what will the market really think about the promised growth for the 4th and subsequent quarters? Lately, all projections are subject to apprehension about weakening markets.

Without strong upward surprise and very definite comprehensive forecasts, I cannot see much upward movement beyond 30 and the possibility that we will be stuck in a 24-30 range until at least the third week of November.

Hope i'm wrong.
