Maurice, CDMA down your way...

SYDNEY, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Canada's Nortern Telecom
(NYSE:NT)(TSE:NTL) said on Wednesday it had been selected by
Telstra Corp Ltd to build a national turnkey mobile telephone
network valued at more than A$300 million, with service
beginning in the third quarter of 1999.
Telstra, which is two-thirds owned by the Australian
government, said in a separate statement that the Code Division
Multiple Access (CDMA) project would replace the old analogue
network.
It said the deal would particularly benefit rural mobile
phone users.
"For more than 1.5 million users currently connected to the
analogue network, the CDMA network will combine the benefits of
digital operation with coverage similar to analogue for
handheld customers," Telstra group managing director products
and marketing, Lindsay Yelland said.
"Telstra plans to commercially launch CDMA in mid-1999 in
Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. This will be
followed by a rapid introduction commencing the second half of
1999 into regional locations covered by the current analogue
network," Yelland said.

>Rajala, not quite right that WLL is no good in a broken car.
>True, it won't do handoff and operate as a mobile, but if you
>have it in your car and you are broken down, it will still work.

Yes it will work, providing the car broke down on your own drive.
