Good point. AOL would of course rather have P&G or coke advertising with them, a long-term relationship with a customer whose check doesn't bounce. And they do want the small deals to succeed both so the small companies can pay their bill and to have something to point to on order to attract other advertisers. All that said, my point was that even if many of the deals didn't work out, as the article that started the discussion suggested, AOL doesn't get hurt much. They got a hefty upfront fee and can replace deadbeats quickly.
