Milehigh,

The MA job cuts were related to the factory that Intel bought from digital, when the digital/Compaq merger occurred. There were inevitable.

the Puerto Rico cuts are cost cutting in a motherboard plant that isn't cutting production - only costs.

This is what Andy Bryant, Intel's CFO, said on CNBC when asked about these cuts.

The cuts have nothing to do with Intel's forward-looking business guidance other than to decrease costs. This is not a bad thing. But don't look at the good side of the story. Just think - Layoffs...Must be bad...Not bullish.

For bullishness, try lower interest rates, lower infalation rates, lower unemployment in the US, lower component costs and a product rollout that just won't stop.
