Intel CFO on CNBC just now set up Compaq very nicely.

Said that main customers (CPQ and HWP) got close to their business model and corrected the inventory problems, and this contributed to surprisingly early and surprisingly large PC sales, which have continued to build.

Says he expects a good 4th quarter.

Only cautionary note is that he will not forecast 1999 because of difficult variables, lack of visibility; notwithstanding that, are planning for 1999 much along the lines they were planning for it 6 months ago before all the recent turmoil.

As I mentioned earlier, I think it is the opaqueness (?) of 1999 and the apprehension that it generates which will be the big unknown in market reaction to CPQ, tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Intel has played a fine overture.
