all you have to do is keep in mind a cap on memory prices. the market in PCs didnt grow really big until they started addressing lower price points. now that we are sub 1k, the OEMs are addicted to the volume. that means they dont want to lose it. that also means there is a cap on how much they will spend on memory for any given machine. and the OEMs are sitting on a lot of cash...that could be thrown at koreans and taiwanese. for them (the OEMs) its a loss leader.
