The chipmaker surprised even the most optimistic Wall Street analysts Tuesday, reporting earnings per share of 89 cents after the close. The consensus estimates had called for earnings of 80 cents, although the "whisper numbers" circulating on the Street this week suggested the number would be a few cents higher than that.

Revenue climbed 9.3% over last year to $6.73 billion. The company earned 88 cents per share in the third quarter last year. Intel executives also suggested on Tuesday that fourth-quarter revenue would be even better.

Thanks...heard this on CNBC about an hour ago....bodes very well for the techs...even with the current market conditions there seems to be someone using all these chips..gotta strange suspicion that the word "great" is a big part of this announcement.... :o)

Best, Kemble
