You're missing something however... remember the decline of IBM was ushered in by Oracle and other software vendors that had unix products that were compatible with the IBM offerings, except much cheaper. Linux doesnt have that. There are things that run on Linux sure, but they arent cheaper/better than the msft offering.

I hope that you are right. I look forward to the day that I can
fix bugs in the O/S I am using instead of just ignoring them.
(Sending bug reports to MicroSoft and Sun is the same as ignoring
the bug except that it wastes the time required to compose the
email.)
