Jeff -

I assume your skeptical about this too, I've been doing this type of work for 20 year now.

PMFJI...

But Jeff, you don't fit the typical profile. You're off the beaten track. I don't know anything about the culture of your shop, but I'd be willing to guess that your management is willing to talk to your techies.

In my experience, such communications between management & workers is rare.

There are a LOT of corporte culture factors that make (or don't make) Y2K a big issue in shops.

Such as...what's the status of your SCM (software configuration management) process? Just as one viewpoint, my research in 1994 found (and was verified by both the tool vendors & market research folks) that no more than 15% of MVS sites had purchased a formal SCM product. This then factors down to perhaps 5% proper, wall-to-wall installs.

My guess would be that your shop DOES have a well embedded & followed SCM process. But the facts show that the vast majority of shops do SCM one application stovepipe at a time. And this is in the MVS shops that SHOULD have the best practices since they've been at software for the longest.

I'd suggest that you read the article I posted the link to and think about it carefully. Then we'll talk.
