SK To Launch Global Cellphone SK Telecom is preparing to launch its new global cellular phone service "Iridium Service" on Nov. 1. The company claims the satellite linked service will enable users to make calls 24 hours a day 365 days per year anywhere in the world be it the Arctic, Antarctica, desert, or the amazon jungle. SK Telecom expects the iridium service to be popular with businessmen travelling overseas and said that it has already received about 600 subscriptions. Prospective users will have to pay a W300,000 sign up fee and W400,000 insurance as well as W5 million to purchase the 'iridium' handset. Basic user charges will be US$1.44 per minute for domestic calls and between US$4-6 for international calls.
