That will definitely be a black mark for the K7 - if Intel's 1998 Xeon will outperform AMD's 1999 Great White Hope K7

I was comparing strictly pros and cons of 128 onchip L1 + off-chip 1/2 speed L2 against 32K L1 + off chip full speed L2.

If the L2 size was infinite on both chips, Xeon configuration might win, but with more realistic configurations, I think K7 configuration has a lead.

But looking at the core, K7 looks impressive. As I said earlier, Intel will muddy the waters with KNI and FUD in the short run.

In the longer run (1 year) $150 Coppermine chip is very important for Intel and some compelling proposition for Cascades.
