Saw your Asia Forum post, and looked around a bit. I have to say the fundamentals look very strong, but your assessment of the Indonesian situation is quite accurate. I had a long talk today with a friend, a journalist who specializes in Indonesia; we agreed that the Habibie regime has a very limited life expectancy. It should be recalled that Indonesia does not have a history of peaceful political transitions.

One very crucial question - is PAP owned in part or closely identified with any members of the Suharto family? If it is, it could easily become a target for nationalization if an opposition party takes power. Chinese ownership could also make the company's operations a target for looting or damage in a period of disorder.

If PAP comes through the chaos relatively unscathed, though, it would be an excellent buy. If (more likely when) Indonesia gets into real political trouble, that will be a time to watch PAP closely. It will almost certainly fall if things get bad, but if anything short of a really radical government gets the upper hand, that will be a time to buy.

IMHO, FWIW, and all the usual disclaimers.
