You are both diplomats

Sometimes diplomats are right... there's somewhat of a language barrier at Abit support apparently.
Heres their reply:

Dear Sir/Ms:

Sorry for misunderstand.
You could chose it from the BIOS. It needs to
concern whit the SCSI card if you are going to
boot from SCSI HDD.

One possible setup

Thanks much for these wonderful morsels of advise.....

Why
is it better to have the tape the master?)

I don't have a bonified reason. I just thought Master might have some heirarchical significance and the tape will be accessed much much more than the cd-rom.

I was not impressed with the reliability of the
magnetic removable media as noted in your mac reference post.

Actually it was the backup to tape software
(Retrospect) that was consistantly in error for certain files. My complete system transfers to Jaz have always worked well.

Is the SparQ external SCSI?

No... only IDE currently. They have announced a USB version but no word of SCSI. Also soon to come from SYQuest is their 4.7GB Quest. Syquest Quest? <g> Thats a size that could *almost* rival tape for me.

he TerraStor product has the
potential of replacing tape and SparQ/Jaz. We should see some reviews soon.

Yep... that sounds like a killer. at $800 thats more than a SparQ+ 8gig tapstor. But i'm still tempted to wait a few months to decide on backup devices just to see if the TerraStor opens strong. Thanks for mentioning it, BTW

I
am guessing it a RAM thing. This machine only has 32 MB RAM.

Alot of folks here have mentioned how NT thrives on mucho ramo... wonder if that had anything to do with NT not seeing your SCSI? But what do I know?

I am rarely near a phone during Adaptec's normal
business hours so it is difficult for me to talk to customer support.

What.. you have a network of computers on that boat but no cell phone?. or are you in ship-to-shore range?
